Skill App

Concept for a mobile skill-tracking and learning app — gamified progression, peer accountability and structured practice tracking for deliberate skill development.

Skill App

Overview

Skill App is an internal upskilling and mentorship platform designed for large organisations. In most companies, internal learning feels disconnected — employees want to grow but don't know who can help them or where to start. Skill App fills that gap: connecting people with knowledge in a way that feels personal, structured and easy to act on.

The Problem

Internal upskilling in large organisations often fails not because the knowledge isn't there, but because it's invisible. Senior people don't know who needs them. Junior people don't know who to ask. Learning management systems are impersonal, hard to navigate and rarely used voluntarily.

We started with a common frustration — why is internal learning still so unclear? — and ran a combination of employee interviews, shadowing sessions and a review of existing L&D tools to understand the real blockers before designing anything.

Design Approach

Skill App doesn't just suggest what to learn — it shows you who can help and how to start. The platform surfaces internal mentors based on skills, availability and organisational proximity. Learners can explore skill maps, request mentoring sessions and track their development journey — all in one lightweight interface.

Built for busy teams, the design balances autonomy with structure. Whether you're new to a role looking for guidance or a senior contributor ready to give back as a mentor, every interaction is designed to be low-friction and high-value.
